Customizing requests

command + location + options

While in the field, you can adjust your requested dates, times, and weather model.
Narrowing your requests allows for shorter, faster responses — valuable when communicating by satellite.

1

Pick your dates

By default you get the next 3 days. Add a day, a date, or a range, anywhere after the command.

You send

Date options

Any range, up to 10 days ahead. date all returns the maximum range, within your requested times. now returns the 3-hour period closest to the current moment, in place of a date.

Be mindful of making large requests like date all or time all. These create lengthy replies that can take a long time to arrive by satellite.

2

Pick your times

By default you get 7 am to 6 pm on each of your requested days. Request a specific time, time range, or one of the keywords below.

3

Pick a weather model

By default, you get a blended model, which combines multiple sources for your location and is right for most use cases. Name a specific model to use that instead.

You send

The marine command works with blended and ecmwf only.

Narrower request means a shorter, faster response
  • The command must come first; options can be in any order.
  • Skip any options to use the defaults.
  • Options change the current request only. Your next plain forecast is back to your defaults.
  • If a value isn't recognized, label it: date 01/15, time 1400, model ecmwf.
Repeating a request: last
Repeats your previous request exactly: same location, same options, fresh data.

Anything you add overrides just that part: last gfs is the same request with a different model. All other parts of the last request are reused.
On a satellite messenger, if the device automatically attaches your current coordinates (or an inReach map link), they will replace the location from your previous request.
